I always say that the first thing a Uruguayan baby sips is not milk, but mate! :) And I say that the first word a Uruguayan baby says is not "mom" or "dad", but "GOOOOOOL!!!!" :D

 

Some time ago, a translation company I work for was doing a survey among their international translators. They wanted to know what each of us would do to make the people of our country happy, if we had all the power in the world. Many noble causes were mentioned. I simply responded: "Winning the World Cup!"  And if you ask around, I think that there's no single thing that would bring infinite joy to Uruguayans than achieving again the greatness of 1930 and 1950. In fact, I was sick for a week from so much cold, waiting for the bus with the players of our National Team back in 2011, when we won the Copa América!
