Maldonado
Maldonado is one of our coastal "departamentos" (provinces). It's capital is also called Maldonado, and it's a sort of continuation of Punta del Este, although Maldonado city is very different, quite similar to all of the Uruguayan cities.
Besides Punta del Este, Maldonado has many other beautiful places, some of which I will try to describe here.
By the way, if you're on a budget and want to visit Punta del Este, it's a good idea to stay in Maldonado City, because hotels are cheaper there, it's not far at all, and the city is fairly nice and safe.
