Punta Ballena

 

Punta Ballena is a very small peninsula located between Piriápolis and Punta del Este, in the department of Maldonado. It is home to a quaint beach town called Portezuelo (one nude beach somewhere there (sorry, don't know much)). But it is probably best known for "Casapueblo", the house of the Uruguayan painter, Paez Vilaró, who he build himself little by little on the rock itself by the ocean. You can read about him in Wikipedia (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlos_P%C3%A1ez_Vilar%C3%B3). (His son was one of the survivors of the Andes plane crash.)

 

Casapueblo is a sort of museum for Vilaro's art, and it also has a small hotel (amazing!), which is not more expensive than most of the hotels of nearby Punta del Este. I want to stay there someday!!
